Thermal (Heat) Odor Treatment
Thermal Odor Treatment — Heat Drives Out Embedded Odors
Some odors are so deeply embedded in building materials that surface treatments can't reach them. Thermal odor treatment uses controlled heat (typically 120-140 degrees F) to warm building materials from the inside out, causing trapped odor molecules to off-gas from wood, drywall, concrete, and other porous materials. Once released, the odor molecules are captured by air scrubbers or broken down by hydroxyl generators running simultaneously. This method is especially effective for fire smoke that has penetrated deep into structural framing.
Our Process
How Thermal (Heat) Odor Treatment Works
A proven, step-by-step approach to getting your property back to normal.
Preparation
We seal the treatment area and remove heat-sensitive items. Industrial heaters and air circulation equipment are positioned throughout the space. Temperature and humidity sensors are placed for monitoring.
Heat-Up
Industrial heaters gradually raise the temperature in the space to 120-140 degrees F. This controlled heat penetrates building materials — wood studs, drywall, subfloor, concrete — causing embedded odor molecules to release from the material.
Off-Gas Capture
As odor molecules off-gas from heated materials, HEPA air scrubbers and hydroxyl generators capture and destroy them. The combination of heat release and air treatment eliminates odors that no single method could reach alone.
Cool-Down
The space is gradually cooled and ventilated. We verify that odors have been eliminated through sensory evaluation. If trace odors remain, additional treatment cycles can be applied.

FAQ
Common Thermal (Heat) Odor Treatment Questions
Thermal treatment is typically used for severe fire smoke odor that has penetrated structural framing, protein fires (kitchen fires), and situations where other treatments (ozone, hydroxyl, ClO2) have reduced but not eliminated the odor. It is the most aggressive odor treatment available.
No. The temperatures used (120-140 degrees F) are well within the range that building materials are designed to withstand. We remove heat-sensitive items beforehand and monitor temperatures continuously. This is the same principle used in bed bug heat treatment.
A typical thermal treatment cycle runs 12-24 hours of sustained heat, plus time for preparation and cool-down. Severe cases may require 2-3 cycles. The total process usually takes 2-4 days.
