BASEMENT WATERPROOFING
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the drain main installed?
The floor has to be a minimum of 3 1/2 inches thick over the footing. We start by installing the sump pump system first. This will help manage water flow during the process of breaking out the concrete along where the floor and walls meet. Beginning at the sump pump, we will remove concrete floor away from the wall approximately 6 inches wide and all the way down to the footer. We will set a short section of the Drain Main on the footer and verify that the vertical portion of the Drain Main will stick up above the floor surface a quarter inch to 1-inch after the cement work is finished. If needed we will use some fine rock to be poured over the footing to raise the Drain Main System to achieve the right height. We will continue laying out the Drain Main System using the pre-molded corners and sump drop kit until we have a continuous conduit along the open trench. Seems between the main sections will be covered with 3M vinyl duct tape to keep concrete from getting into the system while pouring concrete. Once the system is completely laid out and seems taped, we'll pour pea rock into the trench, filling up to the horizontal plane of the top of the Drain Main System. This will leave adequate space to pour several inches of concrete yet over the channel allowing for the back fin to stick up above the concrete and catch any water that may come down the wall through cracks or window wells.
What is hydrostatic pressure?
“Hydrostatic pressure” is ground water from your water table that builds up under your basement floor. However, there are alternative systems available depending on your needs. Indicators that an interior basement waterproofing drainage system would be if you have basement floor crack leaks, heaving floors, and/or water enters in where the wall meets the floor.
How long will it take to complete an interior drain system?
Depending upon the length in feet, most drain tile jobs are completed in 2-3 days.
What is the average budget for an interior drain system?
Average cost can range from $2500-$8000 depending on a company and size of the project.
How do basement drainage systems work?
When the water in the collection pit reaches a certain level (usually a few inches), the sump pump kicks on and pumps the water through a pipe or hose to the surface of your yard, where it drains away naturally.
What is the best basement waterproofing system?
The most effective basement waterproofing method is called interior water drainage. A drainage system can help avoid water buildup in your basement, moving the water from the footers of the house foundation and out below the basement floor.

Why does my basement leak when it rains?
The most common causes of basement leaks is pressure created by water in the soil surrounding the foundation. During periods of heavy or persistent rain, the soil can become saturated, creating hydrostatic pressure (or water pressure) that can push moisture and water through your basement walls and floor.
Does waterproofing your basement increase home value?
